Uniform Requirements

Uniform Requirements

Our school uniform contributes to a sense of community and belonging. These guidelines are centred on these values and recognise the needs of our diverse community. They also further aim to facilitate safe and positive learning experiences.

These guidelines encompass the uniform worn by all students in Years 7-11 and the Years 12 – 13 dress code. The Sha Tin College uniform service is handled by ESF Central Procurement. Uniform orders can be placed online here or made directly at the School Uniform store in Lai Chi Kok.

The standard uniform consists of:

  • Navy blue shorts, skorts or trousers with ESF logo.
  • White cotton shirt, short-sleeved, with school & ESF logo.
  • Plain white or navy socks, long or short.
  • Shoes should be fully enclosed, low-heeled, sturdy and non-slip (dress shoes or trainers).
  • Navy blue fleece or sweatshirt with ESF logo.
  • Navy blue team hoodie.
  • When the HK Observatory Cold Weather Warning is in place, students may wear additional non-uniform layers for warmth.

The PE uniform consists of:

  • Plain blue or black shorts.
  • School PE shirt in House colours.
  • Black or blue swimwear and swim cap.
  • Trainers.

Students may wear their PE uniform for the full school day when they have a scheduled PE lesson.

Year 11 Exams Dress Code:

Year 11 students may opt not to wear uniform during external examinations and mock examinations. During examinations, Year 11 students should follow the guidelines for the Years 12 and 13 dress code.

General notes:

  • Students will be asked to remove or adjust jewellery or accessories if they impact safety or impede learning activities.
  • Families are encouraged to clearly label all uniform items with the student’s name.
  • Students and parents/guardians are asked to discuss any challenges meeting the above guidelines with the student’s tutor and/or Head of Year.
  • Teachers will dialogue with students and families when students’ attire falls outside of these guidelines.

Students in Years 12 and 13 do not need to wear uniforms. The guiding principles of community, safety and belonging should be applied in determining appropriate dress for school.

Years 12 and 13 Dress Code:

  • Clothing may be casual but must always be practical to facilitate a range of learning activities.
  • Clothing should not display any provocative or offensive slogans or designs.

  • Tops must cover shoulders and full torso.
  • Shorts/skirts/skorts must be of a reasonable length.

General notes:

  • Students will be asked to remove or adjust jewellery or accessories if they impact safety or impede learning activities.
  • Students and parents/guardians are asked to discuss any challenges meeting the above guidelines with the student’s tutor and/or Head of Year.
