Outstanding People

Devoting himself in education, Albert served as the manager and honorary legal advisor for over 130 secondary schools, primary schools, kindergartens, and special schools in Hong Kong. In this role, he handled and resolved numerous daily school management issues, campus accidents, and employment matters. Albert also established the “Campus Mediation Project” and led a team of more than 2,000 mediators. Their objective was to provide “Campus Mediation” services to various schools, aiming to resolve conflicts between teachers and students, as well as conflicts between home and school. Additionally, Albert held positions as a lecturer and honorary law professor at eight local, domestic, and overseas universities. His responsibilities included promoting academic connections and facilitating exchanges between Hong Kong and Mainland China. Albert feels honoured to be a part of the School Council and relishes contributing his experience to serve the Sha Tin College community.

Rob is a seasoned communications and marketing professional, with 25 years of experience working for large organisations and political campaigns in the UK, the Middle East and Hong Kong. A native of Scotland, Rob’s career has seen him take on high-profile roles covering a wide variety of sectors – ranging from government to sport, policing to public transport. Rob is committed to developing and empowering the people he works with and has, during his time with ESF, become passionate about education in general – and ESF’s vision of helping every student be the best that they can be in particular. Rob’s wife is a teacher at ESF Sha Tin Junior School. His daughter is a student at ESF West Island School. In his spare time, he likes long-distance running. He also enjoys going to the movies and just spending good quality time with his family.

Carol joined Sha Tin College as Principal in April 2017 after having worked at ESF Renaissance College since 2006. Originally from Ireland, she graduated from University College Dublin with a degree in English Literature before undertaking post-graduate studies at Trinity College Dublin. She obtained her Masters in Educational Leadership in 2000.

Carol spent her early teaching career in London, UK, before moving into international education. Since then, she has worked in IB world schools in Colombia – South America and Bangkok – Thailand, before coming to Hong Kong. She has seventeen-year-old twins who are currently in Year 13.

In her free time, she enjoys travelling, reading and her Zumba exercise classes, which fondly remind her of her days in Colombia.

A loving mother of two young daughters, Lillian is dedicated to the Hong Kong Ballet where she sits on the Guild as a soloist. She has been serving on the Guild for over eight years and has been co-chairing the Hong Kong Ballet Nutcracker Benefit for the past three years. Lillian also served as a committee member on The Adventist Hospital – Men of Hope (Heart Fund) in 2018. Up until 2015, Lillian was the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Princess Yachts Greater China. With an extensive experience in Private Wealth Management for over 15 years, Lillian was an Investment Consultant and Director at UBS Hong Kong focusing on portfolio management for ultra high net-worth clients and listed corporates. Prior to that, Lillian managed segregated accounts for institutional clients at Fidelity Investments and had also spent 7 years with Morgan Stanley’s Private Wealth Management covering the Greater China market. Lillian graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce & Finance degree and a double major in Economics at the University of Toronto, Canada. She also attended King George V School (ESF) of Hong Kong from Form 1 to 7, graduating in 1994 and was the School’s music captain and pianist for the School’s orchestra.

Nelson graduated with a Master’s degree in Engineering from Cornell University in the US. He moved back to Hong Kong and started his career at Swire, where he participated in software development for distribution and delivery systems. Afterwards, Nelson spent almost 20 years in Shenzhen running a product development operation. He has developed a passion for nurturing the younger generation.

As well as working and taking care of two teenagers, Nelson sits on the board of directors for Ngai Kwong Scholarship Trust, which has a team that builds elementary schools in rural areas of ShaoGuan（韶關) and provides scholarships for high school students.

Nelson is honoured to join the Sha Tin College Council and is looking forward to learning and contributing to the ESF community.

Katherine is a legal Consultant at a Hong Kong law firm and also manages her online retail business platform as an entrepreneur. She is a seasoned coach on positive psychology serving educational institutions.

Katherine began her career as a corporate and commercial solicitor and later transitioned to regulatory compliance roles in leading financial institutions. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from City University of Hong Kong. She also obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

She is an alumna of Sha Tin College and is the chair of the Sha Tin College Alumni Association. As a mother of two children, Katherine is honoured to be a part of the Sha Tin College School Council and look forward to sharing her skillset and experience with the ESF community.

Yuying Tong is a mother of two children and a Professor in sociology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She obtained her BA and Master’s degree from mainland Chinese universities and her PhD in the United States. After finishing her studies in the United States in 2007, she moved to Hong Kong to start her academic career at Chinese University. Yuying is a passionate researcher and part of her research interest is studying child development from a demographic perspective.

Yuying likes hiking and talking with people, in particular with parents from various social groups. Yuying feels honoured to join the Sha Tin College Council and is looking forward to learning and contributing to the ESF community with her expertise as a researcher as well as a community member.

Macy Wong pursues her career in academia. She obtained her doctoral degree in Australia leading her to interdisciplinary fields of research and teaching. Her interests are in the fields of Strategic Management, International Business, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management and Higher Education.

Macy is currently leading the Employability Office of her College in infusing all-round employability and entrepreneurship services and employment-related activities that are beneficial to students’ career development. She oversees the strategic planning of her office in enhancing students’ employability and strengthening industry connections through various employability and entrepreneurship services, activities, and events.

Macy is honoured to join the Sha Tin College School Council and is looking forward to building a supportive network invaluable for assuring the best possible learning for students and the ESF community. Macy grew up in Hong Kong before moving to Australia. She loves travelling and reading in her free time.

In 2016, My joined the Hong Kong Immigration Service to help promote efficient communication between Hong Kong immigration officers and Vietnamese illegal immigrants and build a bridge of friendship and cooperation between the Hong Kong and Vietnamese Governments.

Born and brought up in Vietnam, she lived for 10 years in Paris where she studied law at the University of Panthéon-Assas Paris II and at the Paris Graduate School of Management prior to my training and admission to the Paris Bar. Since 2002, she has worked for Ngo Miguéres in Paris, YKVN and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Ho Chi Minh City and Hutchison Telecoms in Hong Kong advising multinational companies in relation to the restructuring of their investment portfolio in various sectors in Asia, especially in Vietnam.

She is passionate about learning the profound meaning of the ancient wisdom that she strives to apply to my modern life for a meaningful existence. For many years, she has been practising meditation to nurture inner qualities of kindness, compassion and wisdom that are crucial for fulfilling her own potential and benefiting others for world peace and happiness. She is grateful that her son joined STC in 2022. She wishes to contribute her humble service to the noble mission of STC.

Matthias Ratz joined Sha Tin College’s Economics and Business Department in August 2023. Originally from Germany, he relocated to the Shenzhen/Hong Kong region in 2004 for his previous career in financial controlling and management. He joined the teaching profession in 2018 after receiving a Postgraduate Diploma in Education at Hong Kong University. With his background in the manufacturing industry as well as being keenly interested in current affairs he is passionate about bringing the real world into the four walls of his classroom.

Hong Kong is the location of choice for his international family where he helps to raise two young daughters by doing weekly explorations into different neighborhoods and beautiful nature spots throughout the territory.

Becoming a staff member of ESF and Sha Tin College only recently allows him to appreciate the strong points of this established organization and the impressive record of staff and student engagement specifically at Sha Tin College.

Lindsay joined Sha Tin College in October 2010 and has been Head of English since January 2014. “Sha Tin College really is a family affair for me: my husband is a teacher at the school, and both my children are recent alumni students (my daughter graduated in 2020; and my son graduated in 2022). I know what an astonishing school Sha Tin College is as a member of staff and as a recent parent, and I greatly value the wide-ranging curriculum we follow, the child-centred approach we take, the caring pastoral guidance with which we support students and, of course, the wealth of extra-curricular activities we offer.”

Lindsay has a 1st class (Hons) degree in Philosophy and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, specializing in secondary English, from Bristol University, UK. Prior to teaching, she worked for a number of years in the music industry in London – in Promotions & Publicity (Rough Trade), A&R (WEA) and Personnel (EMI) – and played bingo to fund her travels around Europe! She has taught English in the UK, Spain and now in Hong Kong and thoroughly enjoys sharing her passion for literature with students throughout the school. Outside of the classroom, she supervises the school’s participation in Hong Kong Cancer Fund’s annual ‘Stride for a Cure’ walkathon and she also supervises VOiCE, a student-led annual publication which showcases students’ literary and artistic talents. Most recently, she has co-written Hodder Education’s textbook, English Language & Literature for the IB Diploma.

Dan joined Sha Tin College as a teacher of Science in August 2012 and has been the Head of Chemistry since August 2017. He is originally from South Wales, UK, and graduated from Cardiff University with a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry. After graduation, he worked for a time as a chemist in the food industry before completing a postgraduate certificate in education at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.

Having started his teaching career in the UK, Dan moved into international education spending three years in mainland China before settling in Hong Kong. He has two young children who occupy most of his time outside of Sha Tin College and keep him on his toes every day. When possible, he likes to get out on the hiking trails and he is also a keen scuba diver.

Sha Tin College is an extremely special place to be, with its own unique energy, and it is his pleasure to be a teacher representative on the School Council.

Tiffany joined Sha Tin College as a Chinese teaching assistant in 2022. She has a Master of International Journalism Studies from Hong Kong Baptist University and a Master in Education from the University of Nottingham.

Before becoming an educator, she worked with local and global media companies for nearly five years. Tiffany stepped into her academic career at the City University of Hong Kong as a research assistant before joining STC.

Tiffany grew up in Guangzhou, a southern Chinese city, and is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English. She has lived in Hong Kong for nearly 6 years. Her leisure activities include fitness, yoga, hiking, reading and spending time with her family and friends.

Kaiden Lo has been a part of the Sha Tin community since Year 1, positioning him with an unwavering commitment to make a lasting impact in our school. As the Student Council’s Chairperson, he is determined to drive positive change through warmth and camaraderie while striving to amplify student voices. He views his position as an opportunity to empower others and develop personal skills.

As a devoted leader, Kaiden has undertaken several projects, including the Winter Festival, various volunteering events, and a buddy programme for Middle School and Senior School students. He has an exceptional capacity for empathy and is dedicated to prioritising student welfare, hoping to enhance a united community.

Jason Tang strives to empower and amplify student voices, working alongside community stakeholders to address issues and enhance all aspects of our school by championing consensus-driven development.

Jason’s active engagement in the Sha Tin community, since Year 1, positions him well to represent the student body. He is also currently a Student Leader and a member of the school’s Model United Nations delegation, platforms where he honed his leadership and teamwork skills.

As Apprentice Chairperson, he is dedicated to contributing to our vibrant community by addressing issues, overseeing the implementation of key initiatives, and lifting the voices of all students. Guided by optimism, Jason is honoured to be a student representative on the school council.
