Leadership Model – Cultivating Leaders
At Sha Tin College we encourage every student to make a positive difference to our community. As exemplified in our leadership model, we believe that leadership is a choice, can be developed and practised, and that everyone has the potential to be a leader. Our approach to student leadership is supported by clear structures, offering a range of opportunities for students across all year levels to lead.
Our four student governance structures are as follows: 
- Student Council: Responsible for engaging with the school community and bringing action to student voice on all aspects of school life.
- House Leaders: Responsible for planning, organising and leading House events and creating a sense of community by promoting House spirit across the school.
- Sports Council: Responsible for offering a student lens on school sports and raising awareness of Sha Tin College SABRES sports teams.
- Environmental Council: Responsible for raising awareness and engaging students in environmental and sustainability action.
Leadership is not only limited to roles within these student governance structures. There are a range of other formal student leadership opportunities across the school, illustrated below.
- Student Leaders: Student Leaders in Years 9 and 10 support planning, organising and running various school events in the Middle School and Senior School.
- Peer Mentors: There are different peer mentorship opportunities for students to become trained to offer support to peers. Students in these groups may offer support on peer wellbeing or academic support.
- Media Team: The Media Team is responsible for writing articles, taking pictures, and updating the school website so that the latest news and information about our school can reach the appropriate audiences.
- IB Community Projects: In Year 9, all students use their knowledge and skills to address a community need that they are interested in. Students investigate, plan and take action to make a positive impact on their chosen community needs.
- IB CAS Projects: All students in Years 12 and 13 engage in CAS, the service element of CAS requires students to engage in a community service activity. As part of this, students often engage in running their own activities for younger students.
- Activities: There are a multitude of school activities that provide students with opportunities to engage in and develop their leadership skills. These activities encompass a wide spectrum, ranging from sports leadership to participation in programmes such as our Model United Nations.
As well as encouraging students to engage with formal elected or selected positions of responsibility, we also encourage all students to demonstrate our leadership qualities and values in their everyday interactions and engagements in school life.
